Travel Retail’s most iconic confectiToblerone was created by Theodor Tobler and his cousin in Berne, Switzerland in 1908. They developed a unique milk chocolate with honey and almond nougat pieces in a very distinctive triangular shape. The Toblerone brand name is a combination of Tobler‘s name with the Italian word torrone (Italian nougat specialty). Every single Toblerone bar is produced in the Toblerone plant in Berne, Switzerland and its famous triangular shape is inspired by a famous Swiss mountain, the Matterhorn, symbol of the Swiss Alps. Toblerone has established itself as the iconic duty free & travel retail chocolate brand, thanks to its great consumer acceptance and broad distribution all over the world. 100 years after it was created , Toblerone is the best-known and the best-selling confectionery product in travel retail. The gold colour of the packaging is exclusive to travel retail - this means that the “famous” gold packs are not available in any downtown supermarkets.
