Passengers with reduced mobility

Our staff in the sales offices, harbour terminals and on board are available to provide all necessary assistance to passengers with reduced mobility.

Check-in at the harbour

During the check-in of passengers, information on the presence of passengers with reduced mobility on board is indicated. This information is necessary for us to provide the best assistance to passengers with special needs.

If you need assistance during embarking and disembarking or if you need a parking spot for a car by the lift, please let us know by submitting a request no later than 48 hours before sailing.

Cooperation with harbour terminal operators

Viking Line works closely with harbour terminal operators to facilitate the movement of passengers with reduced mobility, which includes providing parking spots near terminals, accessible passageways to terminals, notice boards and other information.

Harbour terminals

The harbour terminal operator is fully responsible for assisting passengers with reduced mobility in Tallinn, Helsinki and Mariehamn. In the harbour terminals of Turku and Stockholm, Viking Line is responsible for assistance.

The harbour terminals are equipped with special toilets, lifts and escalators, as well as check-in desks and assistance points for passengers with reduced mobility. Check out more details in the 'Harbours' section.

Embarkation and disembarkation

We recommend that passengers in wheelchairs embark through the terminals, as it is more convenient than embarking through the car deck.

If you need assistance during embarking and disembarking or if you need a parking spot for a car by the lift, please let us know no later than 48 hours before sailing.

Each terminal is equipped with a place marked with a special symbol where our staff will meet you and help you embark. You must arrive at the meeting point no later than 1 hour before sailing.

On board

All Viking Line ships are equipped with toilets and assistance points for passengers with reduced mobility.

Please note that on ships, the cross-country capability of large wheelchairs and personal electric vehicles may be limited.

If you are accompanied by an assistant, we will try to provide him/her with a cabin next to you. Remember to notify us of your special needs at least 48 hours before sailing.

Check out more details about our ships in the 'Our fleet' section.

Accessible cabins

Accessible cabins, specially designed for guests with reduced mobility, can be booked online, subject to availability.

Safety on board

To ensure safety on board in case of an emergency, you must inform us of your reduced mobility, as it may be important in the event of a rescue operation. Also, let us know if a companion is travelling with you who can help you in case of an emergency.

Guide dogs

Guide dogs can travel free of charge on all Viking Line ships, including on those where pets are not allowed. They are allowed access to all spaces on board except saunas, spa facilities and cabins for passengers with allergies. If you are travelling with a guide dog, please inform us during check-in. Special belts or blankets are obligatory. There are special recreation areas for guide dogs on board.

Wheelchairs on shuttle buses

Shuttle buses in Sweden

The buses are not wheelchair accessible, as there is no space for wheelchairs inside the passenger compartment. Wheelchairs can be carried in the luggage compartment, provided that the passenger is able to board and leave the bus independently and/or is travelling with someone who can assist them. The driver is unable to provide assistance with boarding or leaving the bus. The same applies to walking frames.

Bus between Cityterminalen and harbour terminal in Stockholm

Foldable wheelchairs can be carried on the bus, provided that the passenger has sufficient mobility to board and leave the bus independently. Staff at the terminal can provide assistance, but are not permitted to lift passengers onto or off the bus.
