Safety and security on board

Each year, classification societies inspect and approve the safety management systems of both our ships and the company. Viking Line is then issued a Document of Compliance (DoC), while each ship receives a Safety Management Certificate (SMC). These certificates confirm that we comply with the requirements of the ISM Code (International Safety Management Code).

Maritime safety is governed by our safety policy and is given the highest priority throughout Viking Line's operations.

Safety

Through the ISM Code (International Safety Management Code) and ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code), we work systematically to identify potential risks and prevent accidents. We aim to continuously improve safety.

Viking Line and the officers on board ensure that everyone is familiar with their role in the ship's safety organisation. Participation in weekly safety drills is mandatory. These include lifeboat and liferaft drills, fire drills and evacuation drills.

First-aid and casualty response drills are held twice a month, while man-overboard drills are held once a month. Emergency drills involving water ingress are carried out several times a year. Three times a year, each ship and its entire crew take part in a full-scale emergency drill supervised by the maritime authorities.

Important safety information

  • Smoking and the use of open flames are prohibited on the car deck.

Security checks
