Check-in

Check-in times for passengers with and without a car.

Passenger and cabin check-in

Show your travel documents or confirmation number, along with a valid ID to obtain your travel card and keycard.

Passenger and cabin check-in begins approximately 1 hour 30 min before departure time. Travelers who are traveling without a car must be ready for check-in 30 min before departure time.

Check-in and Boarding closes 10 min before departure time.
Tallinn check-in and boarding close 20 min before departure.

We recommend that you arrive at the port of departure 1 hour–1 hour 30 min before departure time, especially during the summer, major holidays and weekends.

Groups

Groups have their own check-point in the terminal. From there, the group leader gets the group travel card and any vouchers for additional services, when showing the reservation number. The group leader should be in a group check-in at least 60 minutes before departure.

Check-in machines

Our terminals have check-in machines which travelers without vehicles can use to check in. The check-in machines open approximately 2 hours before ship's departure.

Most travel can be checked in at the machines, provided that the trip is already paid. To check in, you need booking number, Viking Club card or QR code. The machine then prints out travel cards and coupons for additional services ordered in advance. Staff assists if needed.

Note! In the following cases, you must check in at the counter

  • The reservation is not paid
  • The reservation is made with vouchers or loyalty card, which should be shown at check-in
  • Booking includes a vehicle
  • Passenger information is incomplete
  • The card is inactive (Viking Club or shareholder card)
  • Group travel
  • Travel for bus or lorry drivers

Car Check-in

Car check-in begins in

  • Stockholm: 1 hour 30 minutes prior to departure time
  • Helsinki: 1 hour 30 minutes prior to departure time
  • Turku morning departure: 1 hour 15 minutes before departure time
  • Turku evening departure: 2 hours before departure time
  • Långnäs–Turku: 1 hour before departure time
  • Långnäs–Stockholm: 30 minutes before departure time
  • Kapellskär and Mariehamn: 1 hour prior to departure time
  • Tallinn morning departure: 1 hour 45 minutes before departure time
  • Tallinn evening departure: 2 hours before departure time

Booked vehicle must be checked in and ready to be driven on board 30 minutes prior to departure time and in Tallinn 45 minutes prior to departure time. Vehicles with "Pole position" or with over 2.4 meters in height must be checked-in no later than 45 minutes prior to departure time.

Roof racks on cars must be possible to unload if needed. Cars without a reservation are can be booked and paid at the check-in subject to availability and in the order they arrive at the port. Bikes that are transported on a car roof rack must be notified in advance.

Pole position

Car passengers who have bought "Pole Position" are guaranteed to drive off the ferry amongst the first vehicles.

Travelers who booked Pole position must be checked and ready for embarkation at least 45 minutes before departure. Pole position can be bought on the routes Stockholm–Helsinki, Stockholm–Turku, Helsinki–Tallinn, Kapellskär–Mariehamn and vice versa.

Vehicle registration number at booking

As of February 16th 2016, it is possible to add the vehicle registration number in the on-line booking for the vehicles taken onboard Viking Line's ships. Read more

Helsinki

Opens 1 hour 45 minutes prior to morning departure and 2 hours 30 minutes prior to evening departure. Travelers without a car must be checked-in 30 minutes prior to departure time. Check-in and boarding closes 10 minutes prior to departure time.

Group Check-in opens 2 hours prior to morning departure and 2 hours 30 minutes prior to evening departure.

Car check-in opens 1 hour 30 minutes before the morning departure and 2 hours 30 minutes before evening departure.

Booked car must be checked in no later than 45 minutes prior departure time. You may otherwise loose the reservation.

Tallinn

Opens 1 hour 30 minutes prior to morning departure and two hours prior to evening departure. Travelers without a car must be checked-in 30 minutes prior departure time. Check-in and boarding closes 20 minutes prior to departure time.

Car check-in opens 1 hour 45 minutes prior to morning departure and two hours prior to evening departure.

Booked vehicle must be checked in and ready to be driven on board no later than 45 minutes prior to departure time.

Upon payment of existing reservation at check-in you will be charged €3 as booking fee.

Passenger and vehicle registration when traveling to Tallinn

When traveling to Tallinn birth date and month must be specified, and motorists must enter the vehicle registration number.
