Champagne: Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve
We are proud to present the new Ship’s Champagne of Viking Line, Charles Heidsieck Brut Ré- serve, the best non-vintage standard champagne. Although Charles Heidsieck belongs to the top wine houses of Champagne, it is not very well known among the general public. The score for Brut Réserve competes with the luxury mixtures of many other houses. Its success is based on a large number of mature reserve wines, which makes it highly enjoyable at launch. The abundant roasted nose focuses on tropical fruit, honey, brioche, soft spiciness, and coffee. The palate is velvety and broad. The stylish roasted and fruity aftertaste lingers long in the mouth. An excellent gastronomic champagne that can be served through the meal.
Sparkling: Belvino Durello Lessini Doc, Veneto
The new Ship’s sparkling wine comes from the Veneto region in northern Italy. The wine is produced from extremely rare Durella grapes, which were almost totally forgotten until it was found that these grapes are highly suitable for making sparkling wines. The sugar content of the wine is 12 grams per litre, which balances out the acidity, making it versatile. Served cooled to 4–6 degrees, the wine goes well as an aperitif or with seafood, sushi or fish and creamy sauce. Enoitalia is a private winehouse owned and led by the Pizzolo family. Coming from the Veneto region, the family has succeeded in making Enoitalia the biggest wine producer in Italy.
White: Freeclimber Riesling 2014, Mosel
Freeclimber wine comes from the classical Mosel region in Germany, and is of course produced from Riesling grapes. The name of the wine reflects the fact that most of the work in the Mosel valley is done by hand, because it is impossible to drive machines on the steep rocky slopes. The grapes are harvested when they have reached the highest ripeness level, and fermented slowly with wild yeasts at cool temperatures in cellars. The wine is medium dry, and the sugar and acidity are harmoniously balanced. The taste is fruity and balanced, with mineral tones. The alcohol content is about 11%. The wine is produced by four young and well-known winemakers: Axel Pauly, Thomas Ludwig, Sebastian Oberbillig and Markus Berres. The name of their company PLOB stands for the initials of their surnames. The grapes come from carefully selected growers, all of whom are members of the Moseljünger group.
Red: Réserve Spéciale Cabernet-Merlot 2014, Gerard Bertrand, Igp Pays D’oc
Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, this wine comes from the Pays d’Oc region on the Mediterranean coast. The grapes have ripened to an optimal degree, and they are carefully sorted before the wine-making. The wine is left to stand and macerate in steel tanks for 12–20 days before it is stored in steel tanks and partly in oak barrels. The tannins are softened and the wine becomes smooth as silk. After bottling the wine is still allowed to rest for a few months before delivery to customers. Gerard Bertrand has become an ambassador of wines from southern France and a spokesman for local wines and lifestyle. He has been working for organic and biodynamic cultivation and is today the world’s biggest biodynamic wine producer, and the leading organic wine grower in France.
